The weekend just gone was a glorious weekend in terms of weather and I used it to scout out a nature reserve that is new to me.

The High Batts Nature Reserve is a members only reserve situated within a private estate. As a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) it has a wide variety of flora and fauna, with access being managed for the benefit of both. Operating as a charity with an annual membership fee of £11.00 for individuals, it is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to experience nature.

As I was in "scouting mode" I simply spent the time exploring the the 32 acres, and the three hides provided for observers and photographers. Two hides overlook the river Ure and a third overlooks a pond recovered from an former quarry pit. However it was impossible not to see a wide variety of bird life and I had the rare blessing in North Yorkshire of not having to worry about the light.

Many thanks to Ashley of the You tube channel Wildlife Photographer UK for raising the profile of this wonderful reserve.
